How to Apply
How To Apply For A Cottage
Potential residents are asked to fill out an application form which includes a financial declaration. Those interested are then interviewed by two Trustees. Priority is given to those who have lived in Guildford for not less that two years and who are in need. Failing any successful applications resulting therefrom, the criteria will be widened to those who have resided within the Borough for an unspecified length of time or who have strong local connections through family or previous employment to the Borough of Guildford. (For further details on eligibility criteria, please contact us).
The maintenance charge from January 2021 – December 2021 is £195 per week which includes all property maintenance, heating, water, window cleaning, gardening, external electricity and connection to an Emergency Call System 24 hours a day. Those in receipt of Housing Benefit will be considered. Residents are responsible for their own Council Tax (Band B) and electricity bill.
Day to day management of the cottages is undertaken by a manager. The cottages are not warden assisted and all residents must be capable of independent living.

Donations & Bequests
The charity’s only significant source of income is from the charges paid by the residents. As an almshouse, these charges must be set at affordable levels below market rates. Consequently, other forms of income are always welcome as maintaining such a historic building is very costly. If you would like to help the charity in our fundraising efforts and continue the great work started by Caleb Lovejoy in 1676, perhaps as a one-off donation or as a bequest in your will, please contact.
